what intake manifold are you using on your ZL-1?

I'm using the GM casting #3963569. This manifold was used on 1971 Corvette LS-6 as well as 70-71 Chevelle LS-6 and 70-71 Chevelle, Camaro, and Nova L-78. This is the ONLY rectangular port, dual plane, square flange manifold in existence that will fit under a 68-72 standard big block hood. Other Chevrolet or aftermarket medium and high rise manifolds require an L-88/ZL-1 hood. If I had to use that hood, I wouldn't have built the engine, at all. In my opinion, the standard big block hood is detrimental to the lines of a 68-72 Corvette, but I can live with it. The L-88/ZL-1 hood was borne out of the necessity to create a hood that would be functional with the high rise manifold. It creates a "distortion" to the 68-72 lines that just isn't acceptable to me. Some folks love it; I'm not one of them.

that is what I thought, when I seen that manifold. I have had a few LS-6 manifolds an heads in the past. I wish that I would have kept them, but at the time I needed the money. I sold the heads NOS for 800$, oh well.

I'm almost with you on your hood opinion. I'm not crazy about the L-88/ZL-1 hood, as I also think it disrupts the beautiful body lines, but I definitely think the big block hood adds to the beautification of the '68 - '72 style lines of the cars.

I love all BB hoods, an if I had a SB I would put the BB hood on it.
