    C2 Owner Protection Plan?

    Members,
In the '65 TIM&JG, regarding glove compartment contents, it startes that the glove compartments contains .. an Owner Protection Plan and Warranty Booklet..

I am not familiar with such item. Can someone educate me on this booklet? What am I looking for and can a reproduction of the booklet be secured?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Gene

    Re: C2 Owner Protection Plan?

The 'warranty book' is a multi-page phamphlet that details the terms of warranty, provides coupons for various warranty services and contains the Protect-o-plate (POP) that was stamped out for that vehicle by the factory. Since the factory had no idea who the dealer would ultimately sell the car to (or when it would be delivered; start of warranty), only the basic info about the car was embossed in the POP via an Addressograph/Multigraph machine (engine, carb, Etc.).

At the delivering dealership, a special form of Dymo tape was printed (had GM repeated in blue at regular intervals) to define the name address of the original owner and this tape was affixed to the POP installed on the inside rear cover of the warranty book.

The facing rear page in the book was perforated for easy tear out. The information on the POP was embossed onto the facing rear page and the second to last rear page using carbon paper through a manual credit card emboss machine. The rear page was torn out and sent to the Chevrolet Zone Dealer to record the vehicle's start of warranty and the owner's information.

Warranty books are available in reproduction and, if memory serves, the Long Island catalog lists them. There are several services to create a reproduction POP, but you'll have to ask around for a source. The repro warranty books I've seen have been easily identifiable as reproduction due to intentional differences in font/text. Reproduction POP's are pretty good, but they're NOT cheap. The last I heard, folks dished out something like $175 for a reproduction POP complete with the Dymo Label filled out to the owner/address of your choice.

Some who aren't completely serious about restoration detail, opt to get a warranty book with POP from a scrap yard passenger car (same setup as Corvette) and get 'partial' credit on the judging field for basically having the book and POP, but it not being correct & matching their Corvette. You might loose an entire judging point with the scrap yard substitute book approach, but you'll save something like $200 in the process!

Yes, there are untouched/original warranty books (in blank) that surface from time to time. But, they tend to sell for VERY HIGH prices ($300 and up for just the book!)....

      Jack,
Thank you for your excellent answer to my question.

Looks like I'm going to take a hit on contents when the time comes. I have everything except the warranty book and I can put the restoration money to better use elsewhere.

      Thanks again, Jack.

      Best regards,
      Gene
