    TCS System - '74 Big Block

    It's a new mystery every day...

    I'm trying to determine the correct configuration for my 1974 LS4 w/Automatic. I have reviewed the CSM and AIM and note the following:
    CSM Page 6T-10
    1) "Corvettes with automatic transmission have a coolant controlled Thermo-Override system."
    2) "Corvettes are equipped with a dual temperature overrride switch." (Same as item #1?)

    CSM Page 6T-13
    3) "Corvettes are equipped with a hot override..."

    CSM Page 6T-15
    4) Temperature Switch... "The Corvette Switch ia a three-position control..."

    Judging Guide Page 72 - Mechanical, Vac Advance Lines (LS4)
    5)"...hose from passenger side carb to steel line, to hose to the TCS Solenoid"

    Judging Guide Page 89 - Chassis, Transmission Controlled Spark
    6)"... all 1973 and 1974 M20/M21 manual transmission and SOME M40 automatic transmission Corvettes."

    Please provide guidance on the correct configuration. I do believe my car to be missing some components. I hope you will find the following pictures more informative than any description I could provide of the current configuration.

      Lee my car is a '74 BB 4 speed and my set up is a little different but it looks like from the pictures that one thing missing on your car is the TCS solenoid that mounts to the inside bolt that holds the coil, there are two connections for vacuum lines and a connection for an electrical hook-up also your transmission will have a TCS switch that is located on the drivers side of the transmission, it too has an electrical connection wired in to the harness. I had all this to go through on my car because my solenoid was also missing, I was able to find a NOS part at Restoration Parts Outlet ( Sal Carbone ) 860-649-2241. Good luck, hope this helps.

          On the emissions label above the master cylinder if original are the letters A.I.R. on the label? Lyle

              There is no doubt regarding the AIR system which is intact and can be seen in the photos. I'm trying to confirm what was there for the TCS Solenoid which appears to be missing. Sorry I didn't clarify this better.

              Anyone with a known accurate 1974 LS4 with automatic out there?

                  Their should be a DR1997413 TCS solenoid mounted behind the carborator. I was interested if you had the emmisions label ZH part# 346213 which has A.I.R. on it. Very few 74-454 auto have been judged at the regional level and I was gathering information. The hose routings are shown in Dr Rebuilds catalog if you need that information. Lyle
