1957 side rear view mirror

I have a "dent" on the back side of the mirror. Is it possible to remove the glass and pound out the dent or not worth the bother??????????

The chrome is all in great shape-

buy a repo, save old one in case its an original(unlikely if its"in great shape") mike

Thanks Mike for the quick response-

I just read an NCRS article on the subject. It appears that it is original,
I have the Y-50 MADE IN USA and it has the dome pivot arm, although very rusty.

I had it rechromed a while back. The guy that did it took the mirror apart and I suspect that's how it got dented. I can't prove it though. I still have not mated the mirror to the arm. I would like to take the dent out but I suspect it is a difficult task to remove the glass and crimp it back on.

My mirror shows some wear and other parts also that I cant find original in better condition right now , but I will keep the original part on my Corvette then one not correct repro.

Easiest way is to break the glass and replace it if it's not the original mirror glass. If it's the original mirror glass it is extremely difficult to remove it. Gary #5895....
