    1957 Starter shims

On '57 Powerglide car- How does one know how many, if any at all, shims the starter takes???

I remember spending a lot of time on my '75 trying to get the exact measurement because the starter kept on getting hung up when the car started. I fret having this problem with the '57 because I can't see the flywheel nor the starter gear.

I bolted the starter on already without any shims.......it'll be a long time before I start the darn thing and I guess I'll just have to wait till then and see if it starts OK without the starter staying stuck to the flywheel.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated-

You should have no problem because you don't shim a PG cast iron trans starter, they made them better back in the old days from a 75 vett.

      Thanks ROY-

Back in the day when I owned my first vette, a '58 fuelie, I used to change the starter all the time and never had to mess with the shims! I sure can't say the same for the '75-

I feel a lot better now!
