I am ready to purchase weather-stripping for my 69 coupe, is all weather-stripping created equal? Who should I buy from? Who are the actual manufaturers, that people like Mid-america and Ecklers buy from? What should I be looking our for? I'd appreciate any advice.

Re: 69 coupe weather-stripping
Roberto,
I don't know who manufactures the weatherstripping for these places but I got a complete kit for my '72 coupe from Valentyne International Products 800-457-4847 (they are a distributor for Eckler's using their catalog but offering a discount on catalog prices) and each fit quite well and seem to be of very high quality. Hope this helps.

Bob:
I'm no expert on this subject, but I talked to a friend who has been restoring Camaros for 20 years and he tells me there is a difference in quality in the various manufacturers out there. If you look at the various catalogs, you'll see comments about "no foreign" stuff, etc. and one does show the "GM Restoration" symbol, which I'm told is supposed to represent GM sanctioned parts accepted as equivalent to the original part. I too am looking for other comments or advice about where to get the best replacement weatherstripping for my '69 coupe.

Re: 69 coupe weather-stripping
Jim,
You're quite correct about the quality difference. You should always shop for the best quality parts you can afford. I threw in that reccommendation purely as an example of my own experience, and while the parts I used are of high quality from a reputable distributor, I in no way mean to say that they are the absolute best. They may or may not be. I haven't tried the others. I went on the reputation of the distributor for providing me good quality parts at a reasonable price and I just know they worked well for me.

Re: 69 coupe weather-stripping
Upon searching, I settled on Corvette Rubber out of Caddilac, MI., as I was adivised by another NCRS member here in Los Angeles. Now all I have to do is hope it will stop raining enough for me to install the set. The paint shop that removed the weatherstripping did a pretty poor job of removal, so I will have to clean things up a bit.- Top
