    Re: 64 seat installation confusion

Below is a pic of the original carpet recently removed from my 63. When I removed the seats there were two squares cutout in the carpet for the rear seat mounts. The front bolts went right through the carpet. There were small corner piece pinchwelt over each of the front of the adjustment plates.

Mine is a late 63 (July). Notice the jute padding just crumbling underneath. It was dryrotted and falling apart.

My 63 is an August car, and looked identical to yours in the picture originally. However, that orange stuff on the bottom isn't jute (burlap). That's what foam rubber padding looks like after it dries and crumbles.

      Joe,

Thanks for the picture. A picture is worth a thousand words. Unfortunatly I don't think this will help in my case. My 64 AIM shows the front carpet as being 2 pieces like yours. The drawing update is shown as 5/7/63. The drawing still shows the early tool storage recess. However, I doubt my reprint of the AIM is accurate. I could be wrong but I doubt that any 64s had two piece front carpets. Again, I could be wrong as I have no expertise in this area. All I can say for sure is that the Al Knoch carpet set that I bought for my car has a one piece front carpet.

The AIM showing the 2 piece front carpet does show the cutouts like the ones that you have. Maybe 64s do have a 2 piece front carpet and Al Knochs carpets are wrong. I'm not glueing them in until I figure out what's going on.

      Thanks again, Phil
