    C2/close ratio

When shifting into 1st from 3rd or 4th and 2nd from 1st gear there is a little catch until things warm up. Would this be a linkage problem or would this come from inside the gear box.Because it gets alot better after it warms up, I suspect it is in the gear box? Any advice on where to start, Thanks Steve S

    The best place to start

is to stop right now and not worry about it as long as you are not getting a gear clash. Perfectly normal.

      Steve,

If the problem that you describe didn't get better as the transmission warmed up to op temp, I would think a clutch or transmission linkage adjustment would be a possible cause but since the problem seems to go away when the gear oil warms up to op temp, I'd guess your problem is more likely syncronizer rings/assy's inside the gearbox. It is a very common problem.

I would still start with the easy/cheap possiblities, like the adjustments, and see what happens. Hope it works.

        Steve,

I think Mike McKown has a good point. If the problem only occurs when the engine/transmission is still warming up, you may want to just leave it as is. It's really not a major problem and things get really expensive inside a 4-speed when rebuilding.

What kind of gear oil are you using? Muncies get kind of wacky when you deviate too far from conventional 75W90.
