Help with 1967 Briggs Stratton original keys

On a 1967 Corvette,do the numbers stamped in the original keys have any significance to the car they were originally assigned to? Are the numbers sequential? Thanks, for any help.

each of the lock cylinders will have the same "key number" embossed as the key to which is assigned - sequential numbering, don't know about that

The numbers stamped in the "knockouts" of the keys are the codes for the locks. Each number/character is significant to a locksmith in making a new key from the code without having an existing key. The alpha character on a 67 will appear in a particular sequence of the entire code. If you want to know what the correct code is for a particular lock you can remove the lock from the car. The code will be stamped on the side of the lock cylinder. I believe a locksmith can also decipher a code from an existing key...... have never tried this approach.

I bought a 57 Fuelie that had been in storage for 35 years and the keys were lost. I took out the passenger door lock and a locksmith made a key from the code on that lock cylinder.

It worked perfectly in the ignition..
