56 265 production dates

An ebay listing has what is supposed to be a 265 V8 with the following numbers.
BLOCK. 3720991 Date Code. j205 (OCT 20, 1955)
HEADS. 3837064 Date Code. j275 (OCT 27,1955)

The problem is: the pictures show an engine with an oil filter.
When did Chevy start producing the 56 engine?

the 55 265's lacked the cannister oil filter at the left rear bottom of the block and had a crankcase vent tube that ran diagonally from distributor area down to where the oil filter is located on 1956 and later small block chevy engines. an oct 1955 cast date is ok for a 56 265. regards,mike

Are you saying the casting number does not jive with the casting date. Or what?

That's the casting number for a 1956 passenger car 2bbl head.
