    Goodrich vs Goodyear Goldline

Confused again...65 Judging manual shows only Goodyear as supplier of GL. What is the application for the current Coker Goodrich Goldline?

    Thanks

Also, what are the pros and cons of the Goodyear GL compared to Cokers new Firestone Super Sport goldline?

Need some sage wisdom before dumping a bundle...

    Thanks

Goodrich just happened to be the supplier to Corky Coker when he saw the market for a Goldline. It was built on the BFG whitewall molds, and It never had significant judging acceptability. The Goodyear came several years later after much research by Kelsey on conjunction with several NCRS members. It recognized the difference in profile that the original goldline used and I believe incorporated the unique features of the original into the design. It is a fine reproduction. I have not yet inspected the Firestone Supersport goldline, but I would be looking at overall profile (goldlines are wider in both the tread and sidewall section than the standard 7.75 tires) tread width, cord material sped and general overall appearance of the tire when compared to the Goodyear. If the Firestone is made in the same mold as the whitewall as determined from the tread width and profile, it would recieve less judging credit than the Goodyear.

Interesting Bill. Coker shows cross section width for the goodRICH goldline and whitewall at 7.65, while the Super Sport is LESS at 7.28. The tread width on the goldline is larger at 4.70 compared to the goodrich at 4.50.

        what cha think?

          Jim,

Here's a link to the Coker site that describes the new reproduction. I haven't seen one of these tires yet but I'm hoping they have the tread width correct, as Bill mentioned. I agree, the original Firestone goldlines had a wider tread than the same 7.75- white or blackwall.

Firestone goldline has always been my favorite over Goodyear. If the new repros look right, I may buy a set for the 66.

I'd wait until I see the tires, Corvettes at Carlisle should be a fine place to compare.
