Hello, I was wondering what the part # is for a 69 L88 fuel pump? Thanks in advance.

Re: 69 L88 fuel pump
Steve,
According to a 1969 printing of the parts book, the correct fuel pump for a 68 and 69 L88 would be part number 6416741, the same part that was used on all 68 and 69 427 engines with 3x2. However, the book also states that the short, or AC number, is 40482. Typically, the short number is the same as the last five digits of the GM part number so I don't quite understand why these are different.
In any event, it doesn't look like there was a unique to L88 fuel pump. I wonder what number is shown in the 196 AIM?- Top

Re: 69 L88 fuel pump
Steve and Michael-----
The original fuel pump used in PRODUCTION was GM #6440718. As far as I can tell, this pump was never available in SERVICE under this or any other part number.
The only fuel pump ever available in SERVICE for 1969 L-88 applications is the GM #6416741 aka AC type 40482. This pump is the same as the GM #6440482 used for some PRODUCTION 427 applications. I won't rule out the possibility that this pump was actually used in PRODUCTION, too.
Very rarely are PRODUCTION fuel pump part numbers the same as the GM SERVICE part number for the pump. I don't know, for sure, why this difference but it may relate to the fact that the SERVICE pump is supplied with a gasket whereas the PRODUCTION pumps are not. While the SERVICE part number is usually not the same as PRODUCTION, the AC type number is usually the last 5 digits of the PRODUCTION GM part number.
Before AC quit manufacturing mechanical fuel pumps, the pump that was purchased under GM #6416741 would have the AC type number 40482 stamped on the flange. Now, most AC fuel pumps currently manufactured have this number so-stamped.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 69 L88 fuel pump
Joe,
Your assumption about the different part number for service pump assy's is absolutely correct. The gasket that comes in the box of a service pump changes the part number of the assy. The pump and gasket listed in the AIM are of two different numbers.
Do you know if the original St Louis installed pumps were stamped with the 40482 AC number?- Top
