c1 gas odor one more time

while I was away on vacation last week i saw that you guys had a great discussion on how to solve the gas odor common in the c1. My gas cap was bought from cc and is market vented and has the rivet with the S stamp. All my components are new including the tank on this frame off restoration, but when I fill the tank past half full I cant stand the odor of fuel in the cockpit. Can someone tell me where I can buy a non vented cap. If it can be bought at the local auto parts store, what do I ask for? obviously they wont have a gas cap non-vented for a 60 Vette!!

    Thanks
    Don

    Don,

I would just take your cap to the parts counter and let them try to match it up with something from the "non-vented" stock on the shelf.

    goodluck,

      gas cap

TC, It's been my experience at "modern" parts stores, that if, they can't look it up on a computer they can't help you.

I took my vented cap and filled the vent hole (on the tank side of the cap) with clear epoxy. Took the better part of 1 min. to solve 25 years of fuel odor.

Don, I went into an AA auto parts store and had them look up a replacement cap for my 62. Naturally the cap they pulled off the self was vented. We then crossed the measurements with a nonvented cap. Bingo! Came up with what I think was a Suburu cap. Part No# 6810 (made in Israel) made by CST, Incorporated, Mt. Carmel, Illinois 62863. It fit like a glove! And the bonus was no more fumes. Should you have trouble let me know I'll get one for you. Just drop me an email. Best regards, Jon
