C-3 1970 coupe grills

I took off the front plate on my 70 coupe and the plate holder.. and noticed that the the center grill is all flat black which looks different from the front left and right grills..The front left and right have a crome edge but not the center grill there is no chrome edge.. Also if you have QQ plates do you need to use a front plate.. Thanks in advance

That is the way the front grilles are from the factory. Be happy.
In my state we don't have QQ plates (tags), so I have no idea about that.

I think New Jersey uses QQ plates for antiques. If they gave you two plates, I suspect you have to use two, one in front and one in the rear. You can call your local state trooper office and get a ruling on how they are enforcing their law.

Jack do the left and right grilles have screws on the bottom chrome or are they smooth all the way across? If they are smooth, no screws you have original 70 left and right grilles.

Jack, is your car an early, mid, or late car? My late center grille was also flat black. I suspect it was original, but some judges believe the center grille was painted the same "sand cast" gray paint that is on the outside grilles.

Chuck my center grille on my July built original owner 70 has the "sand cast" gray finish.

My car was built in april and I have no screws on the bottom crome front grills my question is the edges of the front left and right grills are chrome on the foward edge but the middle grill has know chrome on the edges ..From the response I am getting it came from the factory this way

Correct. The center grille does not have any chrome on it whatsoever.

Jack you are lucky to have the original grilles in your 70. Replacement grilles for 70's grilles was the 71-72 grille which had holes in the front lower chrome to secure the grille. I woman actually backed her Ford trucks trailer hitch ball into my 70's right grille when she was doing a parallel parking maneuver, then tried to tell me she did not do it. I actually saw her. It was replaced. The drivers side was damaged my a dog crossing a street at night that I did not see in enough time. Both replacement grilles have holes for screws in the bottom chrome.
