    C-1 Bell Housing

Does any one know the correct casting number for a C-1 Bell Housing dated G 17 7? Mine is 3733365 and I am told it is a passenger housing.

    Fred,
The bellhousing for a 57-59 C-1 is #3733365. Looks like yours is for an early 58.

Thanks Donald, Since I consider this forum the ultimate in Corvette knowledge I will inform the others of their misinformation.

At least per the judging guide, the 553 was used in '61 and '62, with the 591 being '60 only. 553 was also used on 409 engines thru '64

My 57 still has the original bellhousing in it and it has side mounts for a passenger car. I think Chevrolet only had the one housing for Vettes and Passenger Cars in 57. In 8 the ears were gone. Fred, did get much more info reguarding Lance Hill ?

Thanks for the numbers for 60 - 62 bellhousings.... I remember GM changed to Aluminum in 1960, and passenger cars used the same housing, except they had drilled and tapped holes on bulit-up bosses, while corvettes were plain.

                  Bill,
The '64 409 didn't use the 553 bell. It used a 360deg sandcast bell (forgot the number), the same one as the '65 Z-16 Chevelle. Also, the hi-perf 327 pass cars in '62 & '63 used the 553.
