    C3 Jump Starting

After owning a C3 vette for 13 years, I'm finally asking a question that's always bothered me. How do I hook up jumper cables to the battery in my vette if I don't have a wrench to loosen the battery clamp and pull it out of the well?

I have a battery with the tapped holes on the side (facing toward the front of the car). Is there a battery available with the connection on top? Does anyone make a special set of jumper cables that can reach into the well without interference with the well rim?

I've tried mounting the battery in backwards to get better access to the lugs but the battery clamp has nothing to grip onto the battery with.

Does anyone else have this problem?

    Thanks,

    Todd

Several manufacturers make a dual terminal battery for your car. There are also jumper cables made with an extended end on the terminal for the purpose of clipping on side terminals also

Todd I have a 70 and my battery terminals face the rear of the car and use a Delco battery that is secured by the battery clamp. For jumping your 74 you could change the battery cable bolt to what I will refer to as a post bolt. The post bolt is available at parts stores and can be used to attach your current battery cables to the side terminal battery and will have available a post like a top post battery that you can attach jumper cables to when needed. With a side terminal battery using these posts facing to the rear, you should have plenty of room to attach the jumper cables.
