Re: Ci locking gas cap ROB

Does someone sell a non-vented locking gas cap for a C1? I bought the Corvette Central locking gas cap, and still got the gas smell.

Someone suggested filling the vent hole with epoxy..worked well for him. Give it a shot. Rob

What happens when you run the engine, use the gas and create a vaccuum in the tank if the vent is plugged?????

The tank itself is vented. There is no need for a vented cap.

Loren what year is your car? I believe the tanks are vented from 57 on up.
Look in your fill door if it is vented you'll see the hose there. There is also a drain for that area. If the hose is missing from that drain you'll get a strong fuel smell. You sure the tank or lines are not leaking any?

Don't know about C1's...but C2's are only vented thru the cap. No extra hoses etc. and only 1 fuel line to the fuel pump.

Make sure the tank vent hose is not cracked or rotted and the drain hose from the nipple in the body of the filler cavity extends down through a rubber grommet in the underbody so spillage drains out on the road. For fuel Fumes preventive, also check the filler neck hose, they can become dry-rotted and replacing it with a radiator hose is not a good idea...

Rob - it's a 59. I replaced the vent hose, sender, resealed the sender, and the filler neck, etc. is in good shape and sealed well. I'm guesing it had to be the vented cap I was using before, but the locking cap did not help. I'm doing a full body-off resto right now, so I won't be able to try out a non-vented cap for awhile to see if it helps.
