1967 Trim Tag Body Build Date

I want to find out the relationship between the date on the trim tag under the glove box door and the date that the car actually rolled off the assembly line. Is it always the same day or are there variations? Thanks, Don.

    Don,

St. Louis (S) built bodies are usually within a few days. I don't know about A.O. Smith.

I can offer up my AO Smith 65 for reference. (I don't think "always the same day" is an accurate statement in either (AO Smith or St. Louis) case, but certainly inaccurate as for AOS).

Body Built Code from Trim Tag: H29 (March 29)
"Birthday" per the VIN production #: April 6
      65 MM Convertible, L76 (365 hp)

        Don,

The two St. Louis body '67's I've owned have had trim tag dates within around 3 days of the vin# production estimates.

          Don,

Typically, the actual date of rollout is the next working day after the date stamped on your trim tag. It is very possible, however, that a car could have been completed on the same day as the date on the tag. If the body just happened to be at the trim tag installation station at plant startup in the morning, the car could have been completed on that same day.

Because there's no way to determine the actual time/VIN schedule, we have to assume that the majority of cars were completed on the following work day.

          Michael

Thanks Rob and Jack. I wanted to find out if there was any known reason why some body build dates might be the same day as vin# production and others are one or a few days before.

Re: 1967 Trim Tag Body Build Date

Thanks Michael. I am using "The Corvette Birthday Book" as a guide to vin# production. Most comparisons I have made so far are the same day or the day before. A couple I have seen were two days apart but the serial number of the car was at the beginning of the second day according to the book. I'm not sure whether this book is absolutely precise in which case it could have been completed at the end of the previous day.

I believe that I have read someplace in that book the information that the dates are a mathematical calculation based on the number of working days in the specific month and the end of month VIN numbers as released by Chevrolet.

Is your serial number 22597 or 24597. J20 would be May 20 correct? 22597 was completed on May 25. 24597 was completed on June 21.

Vin#24597...J is June in '66's...so it looks like about one day from trim tag to completion.

Jack - my 67 AOS built body has an April 28 body build date and a May 11 serial date.......I have heard they typically were a 10-12 day spread for Dow Smith cars....Craig

Weird 65 trim tag? My 65 roadster, #110894, has a trim tag date of LO8. Your thoughts? Paint & trim jive. No rivet marks, grinding marks, tag & rivets "look" original.
