    Spare Tire

I have a set of Coker Gold Line tires on my 1966, size 205/75R15. I purchased a new spare tire of the same size, only to find that it is too wide to fit in the tire tub. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what width size did you go to that fit in the tub. Thanks.

    Re: Spare Tire

I'm running Goodyear 205/70-R15's on KO's all around. A bit shorter than the original 7.75's but my spare fits in the original tire tub.

Rumor has it that some aftermarket tire tubs may be as much as 1/2" larger in diameter.

      Tom,

If I understand your problem you are saying that the cross section of the tire isn't allowing you to get the lid closed. If that is correct check the length of the front bolts and the lock bolt. These came in different lengths depending on the application. If you don't have the longest ones ( I believe 10 1/4" for the front and 8" for the locking bolt ) you can change these out and this might solve your problem.

I should have added that I'm using the longest length bolts. The ones for a Goldline tire.

Thanks for both of your responses.
Wayne, you are correct. I can force the tire in the tub, but can't close the lid because the front bolts are too short (and probably the back one as well - just can't get that close to find out). I was looking to see if there was a size that the diameter was the same but tire thickness (cross section) would allow me to close the tub without having to try several different size tires. I knew the bolt on the rear was longer for cars that had knockoffs, but didn't know the front ones were longer as well. Changing the bolts out is certainly a good option.

          Thanks.
