    C-3 Exhaust Stuff

    This is a 1979 Corvette with a 350 engine w/ A/C. I am looking for a set of exhaust manifolds that are in "GOOD" condition. I am trying to figure out why some have dual exhaust pipes, and some do not. The ones that are "Y" piped front and rear, have a catalytic converter. I believe that the ones with dual pipes and no converters are custom jobs. If anyone has answers to the configuration thing or exhaust manifolds for sale please let me know.

    Thanks a bunch......

    Last true duals for C-3 was 1974. All catalytic converter cars of that era were factory equipped with a splitter pipe behind the rear axle to give the appearance of duals

      Tom -

      As far as I know, all 79's had front and rear Y-pipes and a single cat.

        I agree, '74 was the last true dual exhaust and it had no catalytic converter, a '79 should. Try Neal Bridges at 727-804-0966 for your exhaust manifold he has a great inventory!
        Good luck;

          Thanks for the comfirmation of exhaust styles. I just wish there was a way to make a 1979 a true dual with no converter. I will call about the manifolds, cause most places want too much.

          Again thanks to all.....

            Tom-----

            There's a way to make a 1979 a "true dual exhaust with no catalytic converter". However, there's no LEGAL way to do it and there's no way to do it that would result in an NCRS-correct configuration.

            Also, all 1979's used A.I.R. (air pump) emissions control except federal emissions L-48s. So, if you have an engine originally equipped with A.I.R, you will need manifolds with fittings. Otherwise, you need manifolds without fittings. All small block manifolds used for 1979 were GM casting #3932461, some being equipped with fittings and some not. There are other manifolds that will work and be 100% functional, if not NCRS-correct.
