Joe:

I'm helping out a Pace Car (78) owner with a broken directional lever and my P&A (1983) shows this number but I suspect it's a service replacement. It's for a non-cruise tilt/telescopic steering column...some discussion about whether its straight or has a bend. The cruise lever has a bend but he has a 14009242 in the box without a bend. Thanks.

Yes, the 14009242 is a replacement for the 1978 application. As far as I can tell, it was the PRODUCTION piece for 1980 Corvettes. It became the SERVICE part for 1978 Corvettes without cruise control and with tilt wheel after the original lever, GM #470342, was discontinued in February, 1980.

Thanks Joe...I kind of thought that with the 1400xxxx number out of sequence with 78 column production numbers.
