I'm planning to take out the radio for rebuild. I plan to remove fron the driver's side. Is there any tips out there to keep this job as simple as it seems?

Re: mid year radio
The radio has to come out the passanger side. You will have to remove the console side panels to get to the radio antenna lead. You will have to wiggle the radio to get it out. There is a heater outlet duct in the back of teh radio that has to come out also. Good luck.- Top

Re: mid year radio
EJ --- Sorry for the delay, but here's what the '66 Delco Radio Catalgoue and manual has to say: 1. Remove battery ground cable before attempting radio removal 2. Remove both side trim (panels) from center dash console 3. Remove black plastic heat distributor duct (two 5/16" screws) 4. Remove radio support screw (7/16" lower RH side) 5. Remove glove box; disconnect speaker, antenna & power connections 6. Remove knobs and hex nuts 7. Carefully tilt radio top back; manipulate through the side (doesn't specify which) 8. After re-installation be sure to peak antenna trimmer; otherwise radio performance may suffer
Now, it is possible to remove with glovebox left in place, but it helps if it's not in the way. I think you absolutely have to remove the center console (horseshoe) from the transmission tunnel. It's the "manipulation" step that is the most frustrating. You'll swear it's not possible to remove, but it is, and without bending or forcing. Good luck.- Top
