I am looking to purchase a 66 427/425 that has a block of 3869942, casting date of 12/18/65, owner not sure of the front pad (it still has paint on it) he thinks it is T1221IP? His car build date is 12/22/65. What should the front pad read? It seems to me the engine is wrong and should have been built a week before the car build date? He will let me wipe the paint off if I am serious about the car. Help, I need suggestions, before I go to view the car, the price is high. Thanks,
66/427 Enginge casting date? Correct??

Re: 66/427 Enginge casting date? Correct??
Thanks Don, yours makes sense to me, 5 days between engine and car build date. What is your casting date for the block?- Top

Re: 66/427 Enginge casting date? Correct??
Bill,
Possible but highly unlikely. Even if the engine was assembled and shipped on the morning of the 21st, that would only be one day ahead of car assy on the following day. If we assume that your car was assembled at the end of the day on the 22nd, that would still only be two days from Tonawanda to car assy.
If, however, the car was actually finished on the 23rd, which it most likely was, that would leave two entire days for shipping. Possible?- Top

The 20th would be a possibility as the 19th was a Sunday. That would leave enough time to ship to St Louis by the 22nd.- Top

Re: Yes
Bill, I don't remember offhand. I'll have to find flashlight & write it down. I know it precedes the deck stamp. I am thinking that the seller of the 66 your are looking at is misreading #s. Altho remember whenever you sell it you will have to explain the discrepency.- Top

Could be assembled the same day it was cast??
If the motor was assembled the day 18th, it was cast or the day after 19th, his numbers would be correct?? I hope when I rub the paint off it's the 18th or 19th, would everything be correct then? I can walk away from this car if it looks bogus, but seller is saying it's correct.- Top

Re: Could be assembled the same day it was cast??
I think everyone is reading Bills dates backwards. He stated the block was CAST on the 18th, ASSEMBLED on the 21st and the car was built on the 22nd. The block cast to assy dates fit nicely, as far as I'm concerned. It's the body build date, the 22nd, that was in question, because it was only one day after the engine assy date.- Top

Re: Could be assembled the same day it was cast??
Many of the 427 motors out there are restamps or not original. I would think seller would remove paint & send you a high resoulation. You could put photo on this forum & you would get accurate advice. If you want an orginal car. The dates you quoted donot sound promising. I went thourgh this when I purchased my 66 & 67. Don- Top

Re: 66/427 Enginge casting date? Correct??
Not so. He is saying the body build is one day AFTER the engine assy date. I've gone back to his first post three times now just to make sure I wasn't having a senior moment.
Block cast 18 Dec
Block ass'd 21 Dec
Body buid 22 Dec- Top
