1963 TRICO and CAN 63

Hi all -

I was just following the thread below re. identifying correct w/s/w/ blades for a 66. This got me wondering about mine on the '63, and I went out to have a look. Mine appear to be correct for '63 (polished TRICO flat tops w/o Made in USA). However, I noticed that one has CAN 63 on the clip, and the other does not.

This led me to the archives, and I found an old thread from Peter Lindahl (Peter, you REALLY know your wipers!) stating that the non-CAN 63 is an early '63 wiper arm, and the CAN 63 kicks in roughly around January 1963.

I have a late '63. If anyone has an early '63 with a CAN 63 arm and would like to swap, contact me by email.

Pete, My April 63 must have had the wipers installed by the same person. I have the same setup as you. I'm sure it was changed in the past.

Pete - To clarify, the CAN 63 stamped on the side of the clip would not have appeared on the TRICO w/s/w holder clip until calendar year 1963. Further more, I would not expect that the appearance of the chips stamped w/ CAN 63 was an immediate change w/ the calendar year, so most likely these the holders with these clips didn't make it into the system for some time into the 1963 calendar year. Hopefully, we'll get some additional feedback when these holders began to appear on Corvettes at least. But, holders w/o the CAN 63 could well show up for some time as the stock of the olders clips were used up in manufacturing and these holder got installed during vehicle production. It's worth noting that the 15" w/s/w holders were used on Chevrolet passenger cars (probably other GM vehicles also) starting with 1959 production and then on Corvettes starting with the 1963 model year. Significance of CAN 63

Any ideas?? Did Trico have a Canadian plant? Is the 63 a date code? Just curious. THANKS for the help!

Gordon - My read is that it refers to a Canadian Patent since all the other numbers on the clip are Patent Numbers (US Patent Numbers). TRICO holders for 1966, 1967 and probably beyond use the cip with the CAN 63 so it's not a production date code. Pete
