    67 Brake Lines

I purchased a set of brake lines for a 67 standard brake car from Corvette Stainless Steel Brakes in Miami, Fl. The hex fittings on the master cylinder to distribution block (front) are an orangey color, not yellow gold dichromate like the other hex fittings. On the master cylinder to distribution block rear line, one fitting is orange the other is a blue-green. The company tells me these are the correct colors. Are they?

The rear trailing arm lines have armour on them. I have read that 67 trailing arm lines DO NOT have armour on them.

Luke at CSSB was easy to deal with. He said he will give me what I want. All you NCRS judges out there--What do I want?

Ed, From my experience the dye on the fittings supplied you are correct. The hue of the coloration may vary a little from what you recieved but should be OK for judging. Blue green to green to blue may be of question as shipped original from GM but as a judge, I would not deduct for color variations. As far as spiral armor on the trail arm steel lines they should be there.

      Ed-----

I am not involved in any way in judging, so I'll leave comment on judging standards to others who are so involved. However, the subject of the spiral armor on the rear caliper steel brake lines is an interesting one.

My original owner 1969 convertible DID NOT originally have the spiral armor lines. I am absolutely certain of that. About 15-20 years ago, I decided that due to some distortion of the lines which had occurred over the years and "rounding" of the hex fittings that occurred when I was young and didn't know about tubing wrenches, I'd replace the lines. So, I went down to the Corvette Parts shop that I did business with at the time to purchase new ones. When I was handed a set of "reproduction" brake lines that included the spiral armor, I told the fellow that I needed the ones without the armor. He then told me that there was no such thing----that all Corvettes used the spiral armor.

Well, I can tell you this, for sure: unless someone sneaked into my garage one night right after I bought the car new and changed the rear brake lines without my knowledge or consent, there was at least one 1969 that was built without the spiral armor lines. I strongly suspect that there were more than a few others in the late 60s that were, too.
