    Control Arm Bushings

I don't have access to a press and was wondering if there is way to replace the control arm bushings on a 73 without a press?

Yes, there is. Usually, the control arm bushings can be removed with the aid of an air chisel. Being extremely careful, one can usually work an air chisel bit between the bushing flange and the a-arn, itself. Be very careful at the beginning in order to get the chisel "started", then, as the bushing starts to seperate, you can tilt the air gun and drive the bushing out. If you're careful you can do this without significant damage to the a-arm.

New bushing can be installed using a "dead-blow" hammer with the a-arm properly supported and secured..

Actually, I really prefer the use of a press for this work, but in order to use the press, you need to make up some special tools for this specific operation. The original Kent-Moore tools have been discontinued for years.

      Burn those mothas out....

rubber that is and use low flame. acetalyne only, so not to change the temper of the steel, then then drive the retainers out with a hammer & a chisel. Works great, did this on my arms about a month ago. Just clean off the black soot after you're done. No damage to the a arms.
