    Goat Hill Classics

Has anyone had any dealings with this company? If so, were they positive or negative. They advertise in the NCRS driveline.

    Re: Goat Hill Classics

Hector, I purchased a water pump from him a few years back for my 63. The price was competitive and everything went fine. I'd say positive.

What part are you looking for, water pump, fuel pump, starter, etc. If your looking for a numbered/dated part always ask if it was re-stamped. When I looked at a starter from him I asked that question and was told that , yes, it would be a re-stamp and that an original would be harder to find and more expensive. So I guess I can say he was also honest.

Ask as many questions as you can till you feel comfortable and make a decision.

Thanks Harry, great information. I didn't think about the re-stamping issue. I'm looking for just about everything. I have a 66 427/390 hp. It is all original, but missing original starter, water pump, fuel pump. etc.

Hector, are you going to Carlisle next week. There will be vendors there with parts you are looking for. If you can't make it another good source for starters and other electrical components is John Pirkle, Masters City Classic Car Parts of Augusta, Georgia. His phone number is 706-860-9047. He is well know in Corvette circles and well thought of. I got my 63 starter from him. He is always at Carlisle.

I'm in CA. Getting to Carlisle presents a slight problem. I have never been to Carlisle. I hope some day soon to attend the event. I will call John Pirkle re: the starter. Thanks again for the information Harry.

            Hector:
My experience with Goat Hill was very negative. He sent a "dated" water pump that had a date that was barely readable. It also had very little of the metal left around the neck of the outlet. I called the owner( cannot remember his name) and he told me that I was being too "picky" and that I could return the pump, but I would have to swallow a large restock fee. I returned the pump with a request for another pump or my money back...Goat Hill never responded.
I requested assistance from NCRS on this vendor and never heard anything.
Sometimes you are the dog and sometimes you are the fireplug. I can only relate my experience with this vendor and hope that others do not get nailed the way I did.

My experience has been that Paul, the owner I believe, will consider you "picky" if you are specific about the details of the item you are interested in. I get the feeling he prefers to deal with people that are less informed and willing to use his judgement on correctness and originality.

I ordered a distributor from him while he was at a local show. It took forever to get him to ship it. Once received, all was well. They are usually at local corvette swap meets, as I see him in the Seattle area every year. He usually has a pretty good stock of parts with them on these trips. That way you get to see (usually) what you're buying.

I limit my purchases from Paul Baker the pulley king to items in stock at shows......he will be at Carlisle next week. He is always expensive but has items that can be hard to find....Craig

                      Hector,
I echo the negative comments that others have expressed about GHC. I sent my original fuel pump to Paul for a rebuild. The fuel pump was in his possession for 74 days. I thought that I was never going to get it back.

I would only buy an item from GHC if I couldn't get it anywhere else and I would only buy it over the counter at Carlisle and take it with me. I hate to "bad mouth" anyone, but the fuel pump issue leaves me with nothing positive to say about this supplier.

I bought a coil from Goat Hill and had trouble getting him to ship it. I finally ran in to him at Bloomington, and he gave me one that he had there. This was a couple of months after he had cashed my check.

I agree. I ordered a water pump and fuel pump form him. It took a while for it to come, so I contacted him and asked for the tracking numbers, so I could track it. He said, "This is why I dislike dealing with the public." He wants to build parts and sell them through wholesalers who don't ask questions.

I'm glad to see there are others who have had difficulties with GHC. I thought it was just ME. Every time I've dealt with him (on two different occasions)the parts have been questionable. When questioned about them, he gives me a wise-ass remark. I don't deal with him any more.
