Radial tires vs. bias ply

I am putting my C2 in flight judging and need to know if I will take a bigger points hit by keeping "correct type" repro radials on, or getting bias ply non original tires with DOT markings ?

I really don't feel like buying bias ply tires if they will take an originality points hit anyway.

Ron, I am certain that a lot of members much more knowledgable than I on this subject will comment on your query; however, my two cents worth is if the car is ever to be put on the road (and I certainly hope that is the case), you do not want bias ply tires. My '64 has Goodyear radials that are not 'correct type repros' and my '68 has red-stripe bias ply repros. The driving/handling difference between the two cars is incredible. The '68 seems to hunt, twitch and whatever other bad situation you can imagine, most noticeably when the tires are cold.

I agree. I had bias ply on my 63 SWC, and the way I describe driving is that sometimes wheel I turn the wheel right or left, it feels like the body of the car is still going straight.

On my 67 I have radials now, and wondering if I should invest in repro "correct type" bias ply just for judging ???

Ron, That's totally up to you. How badly do you want those extra points? Are you going for a Duntov? Will it be worth the $170. a corner for bias?

If you are going to try for a Duntov you will need a set of bias ply tires at least for the PV test. You can't pass a PV with radials on. Mike
