Purchased a complete set of locks labeled for 56-59. Attempted to install the door locks, gaskets, and bezels in a 58 door and found the shaft of the lock a bit short in attempting to grip them with the internal bracket. Even without the outer gasket in place they don't extend far enough within the door to secure them. Is it possible that these locks come in different lengths and I just have the wrong size? Or, am I missing something in the installation process? Thanks. Richard

Re: C1 Door Locks
Richard,
I believe the door gasket kits iclude a door lock gasket because the kit includes all the gaskets required for a Chevy sedan door as well. The Corvette door lock does not use a gasket (I think I'm right on this). Regards,- Top

Re: C1 Door Locks
This is just a stab in the dark, but if you have replacement fiberglass door skins installed, the glass could be too thick with the lock appearing to be too short and the retainers would be very diffcult, if not impossible to install. Many manufacturers have difficulty producing fiberglass panels of the correct thickness.
Your problem would be true for ANY component that you have to stick through replacement fiberglass.
Just a thought.....

Re: C1 Door Locks
I had the same problem on my 60. This is gonna be what my frends call
"Larry Logic" but here goes--- I think the suppliers are giving us locks made for a steel body. The extra thickness of the fiberglass makes it impossible to install on the thickness of fiberglass, gasket or not. I used a handy grinder on the lock casing and "adjusted" the retainer to get mine on.
