Last night I was cleaning the aluminum valve cover on my L46 engine and noticed red paint in the edges closest to the manifold why would that be there ..is this overspray from the factory.Also what color should the intake manifold be and the exhaust manifolds be to be correct if I decide to paint them while cleaning ?? Thanks you guys really have help me..

I don't post responces often so the guys and gals my correct me if I am wrong but the intake manifold should be the same color as the block, orange I believe for this year, and the exhaust manifolds should be cast iron, natural not painted. The valve covers were on the engine when they were painted at the factory so they have overspray on the edges as you described. Many folks miss this detail when they restore a car. If you scroll down there is a post by someone who has a picture of BB getting painted at the factory. The same process would occure for SB too.
