C2 Is front window glued to metal or glassfiber?

I have a 1966 Coupe with a leaking front window. It leaks on both side at bottom of window. I will have the window removed an re-sealed. Is the window glued to the metal frame so the likely reason for the leak could be rust? Or is the window glued to glassfiber body?

    Hans -

The window glass isn't glued to anything - the glass is in a groove in the forward portion of the rubber seal, and the steel flange on the body opening is in another groove in the rearward portion of the rubber seal.

Hans, If you remove the windshield you'll need a new rubber gasket. They are available from the Corvette vendors. I had a similiar experience with my windshield. The problem was rusting of the cage assy under the windshield gasket. After you remove the glass and windshield clean the metal lip that is sticking up. Then you may need to reseal the metal joint with sealant before installing the glass.
You may also want to replace the clips that hold the Stainless Steel trim pieces in place as well as the small screws that hold the clips. All of this stuff deteriorates over time and now is a good time to replace it. Everyting is available from the vendors.
When you reinstall the windshield with the gasket, apply a small amount of sealant on the metal channel for added sealing as shown in the Service manual.

Steve, thanks for your info. Can you refer to a vendor that would have the gasket, screw and clips. I searched the internet and found no-one so far that has the gasket and screw

Try Long Island Corvette in Long Island New York. He is a primo supplier for 63-67 Corvette stuff. www.licorvette.com 1-800-466-6367
The screws hold the clips in place. They are about 3/8" long. I purchased all of these things from him.

            Hans,
I also have a 1966 coupe with the windshield leaking in the corners around the seal. I took the car to a local glass shop to have this problem repaired and they couldn't fix the problem. I provided them with a new seal and clips. I had the car back to them four times and finally they said they coudn't stop the leak ended up giving me my money back. I've got the car into a shop this week to have the problem fixed. I had to check around to find someone who knows mid year corvette glass and finally found this place. So ask questions before you take your car to any glass installer it will save a lot of headaches.

              Mike

I'm chasing one of those corner leaks also. Please let us know how this shop solves the problem, if they are successful. I'm getting ready to try sealing the gasket from the inside as suggested by folks on other boards.

              Thanks
