car sat outside with no intake for 16 years before I bought it. had engine rebuilt with .030 over.did an unleaded gas convertion to the heads, new guides and hardened seats, 3 angle valve job and late style valve seals, didn't change the valves nor springs as rebuilder felt they were ok. After about 1000 miles I found 3 broken valve springs. Believed to have been age and fatique. Pulled the heads and had EVERYTHING replaced for new. Now have about 200 miles on the rebuilt heads and suddenly I have blue smoke comming from the right side exhaust. Doesn't appear on first start up but after driving 5 minutes and car reaches operating temp or stop in traffic it puffs smoke. Hadn't done it for the first 200 miles. Car has not been abused or driven hard it's a powerglide. Car runs great, no overheating no miss. Could this be a valve seal gone bad so soon? How would I test. I intend to do a compression test and read the plugs but I don't think this is going to tell me much other than a sooty plug.

Re: C1 suddenly buring oil
After you do the compression check AND you find one or more cylinders that are abnormally low compared to the rest, continue on with a leak-down test. If done properly, the leak down test will isolate the source(s) of compression loss (piston rings, intake valve, vs. exhaust valve). But science to work, there's no reason to guess or effect repair via hit & miss work...- Top

Re: C1 suddenly buring oil
Thanks Jack, I just spoke with my brother-in law, a retired mechanic living in Fla. He suggested the leak down test also. I am going to drive over to the engine rebuilders place tomorrow with the car to have him have a look see at the smoke.
