    Mid Year Radio

One of the push-buttons on the radio in my '64 works, the others refuse to be set. They can be pulled out, but when pushed back in, they have not been reset and change the station back to where that button started. Anyone know a fix for this?

    Thanks.

    Yes

'Care and feeding' of your radio is covered in an 'omnibus' book from AC Delco that addresses all Chevy Radios (one for each year of production that you can find at swap meets, in some major libraries, Etc.). I have a 'reasonable' collection of these (go for $15-20 WHEN you can find 'em).

Book gives full schematics, alignment, and troubleshooting details for the AC/United Delco bench technician. In addition to electronics, book covers troubleshooting the electro-mechanical aspects of the radio's core tuner chassis.

Presuming you're an electrical engineer/technician (I am), this is a great book to have in your support library since vacuum tube and early transistor technology (parts, circuits, Etc.) is fast evaporating. If you're not oriented in this fashion, then FORGET what I just said (tough knowing backrounds and skill silhoutte of individual posters).

Tuner has clutch mechanism, spring, buttons, and 'fingers' to perform its station pre-set functions. Can be a simple issue of pulling radio, opening chassis, and cleaning then re-lube the tuning chassis. BUT, if you've got broken/missing pre-set fingers -- you're sort of SOL.... Takes a complete dissembly of the tuner and discrete mechanical parts swap (discontinued, of course, but CAN be pirated from Chevy passenger car radios of the era).

For the novice, consider pulling the radio (or have them do it), open phone book, find AC/United Delco dealer in your area who works on radios (shouldn't be hard), and let them repair the set for you. Might run a whooping $100.... Additionally, there are a number of radio repair specialists who advertise in the SERVICES section of Driveline if you don't have a local Delco dealer nearby.
