    Explanation of master cyl. #s?????

I recieved my correct M.C. #5455509 for my 67 power assist. brakes. Can someone explain the other following #s? "149" & "D7". "DC" on end. Also I plan to clean up light surface rust with fine steel wool & spray with simi gloss black. Is steel wool a poor idea? Thank You, Don

The 'D7' is most likely a casting mold identifier. There seems to be controversy on the meaning of the other number... Some think it's a date code mechanism while others believe it's simply a mfgr run identifier. In any case, dating is not a judged aspect of master cylinder housings on '67 cars...
