Replacing my speedshop aluminum valve covers, which have been on my 327/300Hp since 1968, with original steel covers. Need recommendation on gaskets, cork or Felpro? Have both.
Can I expect some changes in performance or heating?
Factory originals were cork, if the concours matters to you. Don't expect any change in performance/heating.
One BIG tip on stamped steel valve covers is to MAKE SURE the edges are flat & true before you install them. Run a straight edge along the bottom lips and if they're warpped in the typical places (beneath fastener locations), lay them on a flat surface and tap them back flat/true before going any further.
Then, when installing, do NOT over-torque the bolts! Remember, the gasket needs to 'breathe' during engine thermal cycles and that expansion/contraction is built into GM's recommended torque specs.
