At some point i hope to be able to post a more positive message on this forum. Some may recall i recently described having to pull the small block out of my "frame off" restored '65 convertible in order to repair the engine. A floating wrist pin (without keeper) had been installed in one of the cylinders. I found a great local machine shop and we went completely through the engine.
While trying to put a few miles on the engine I was sitting at a stop light this past weekend when a noise began coming from the transmission area with a "vibration" felt through the shifter. I've concluded the throw out bearing is failing and will now need to be replaced. Would have been a simple fix when the engine was out but now I will have to pull the transmision.
Asking for suggestions to consider while the transmission is out. I will, of course, check the clutch and pressure plate (the flywheel was resurfaced when the engine was out ) but was wondering if i should replace any other items at this time i.e. u joints, etc. The transmission itself seems to be fine - there were no previous shifting problems.
Lastly, regarding short or long throw - which is most correct for judging standards ?
The worst part is that I will now have to tell my wife there is another repair issue to be dealt with ! ! !
Thanks all,
Noel Kendall
