1967 Rallye Wheel DC code puzzle ??

I am changing my 67 wheels from bolt on to correct Rallye wheels. The matter of large DC stamp code vs. small DC stamp is becoming more confusing.

A large well known vendor at Carlisle was telling me that small DC stamped wheels are the only ones with the Kelsey Hayes "K" stamp, and date codes. And that these are correct. He stated that large DC wheels don't have date codes, and they are service replacements. I thought it was the other way around ? The 67 judging manual sheds no light on the matter. And shouldn't both types have date codes and "K" stamps ??

My 67 has an original set of rally wheels on it. The wheels have a large "DC" at the valve stem, and smaller "KH" and "GM" near the bolt pattern. I have owned this car for 24 years, I have a photo taken in 1971 with Rally wheels so I have reason to believe that the wheels were replaced, at least not every one of them including the spare.

Ron - I'd expect all of the '67 style rallye wheels to have production dates stamped on them somewhere, although sometimes the stamping on the inside is difficult to find and might not be there; but those later production wheels with production codes stamped on the front are usually readily apparent. If you are looking at wheels alone, i.e. rims; look for the production dates stamped on the inside. The dates are stamped month (1-12) and a year 66 or 67. Original '67 model years wheels would run from 8 66 (August 1966) (these would be stamped B by the valve stem hole) through 7 67 (July 1967). If you want them to be "correct" for the car, look for production dates a month prior to the car build date unless it was build in the late week of a month; then wheels dated for that month would work.

BTW, was the vendor selling small DC stamped wheels??????????

I'm not quite clear on the location of your "K" & date stamp comment. To help elaborate on Peter's comments, no puzzle, original '67 Rallyes have the Large "DC" by the valve stem, nothing else. (Very early cars had "B"s). The very small dates are stamped in the center of the outer rim.
The "K" and dates stamps on both sides of the valve stem opening came later.
You are correct the small "DC's" are considered to be service replacements.

I have access to the following examples:

Std. Wheels with a large DC and no dates inside, from a car made in 1967*.

Std. Wheels with a large DG (or perhaps DC) and dates inside, all = 2/67.

*I am currently trying to recover the date of production of the first car, and I can look to verify DG or DC (on the 2/67 wheels) if anyone is interested.

          Thanks

I have never seen a corectly dated original 67 wheel with a small dc. They are all large. DG is also just about as prevalent as DC.
