Where does the distributor power wire ( negative) pick up its power on the 70-71 LT1 cars? Does it plug into the harness in the windsheild wiper area or do they run a jumper wire to the harness or into the fuse box? TIA....

Re: C3..TI ignition question
The TI distributor does not have "power" there is just a two lead connector that transfers the magnetically induced voltage to the TI amp. The TI system has a dedicated harness with a connector to pick up power from the igntion switch to the amp.
The wiring diagram is in your CSM.

Re: C3..TI ignition question
Duke...I just wondered if there was a different "jumper" harness for the TI as compared to the regular ignition seeing that the TI was option. When the car was coming down the assembly line, was there connectors already in place for either ignition set up or was there an extra harnass for the TI?- Top

Re: C3..TI ignition question - build a library
There IS a separate harness for the TI. See your copy of the Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) for a drawing and installation instructions listed under the K66 option.
Bruce every Corvette owner should build a support library for his car, unless the intent is to just flip it. That library should start with a Chassis Service Manual (CSM), Chassis Overhaul Manual (If you intend to do serious work on the car), and AIM. If the intent its to show the car in NCRS or NCCB (Bloomington Gold) one should also have the applicable year Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide (TIM&JG or Jugging Manual for short), the NCRS Judging Reference Manual, and the applicable judging score sheets. The library can grow to include the Vette Vues Fact Book for the applicable year, Noland Adams C1 &/or C2 restoration guide(s) as applicable, and Alan Colvin's by the numbers Corvette or Chevrolet books as applicable. One's library can grow from there as one has the time, skill, and interest.
All those titles, I believe, are available from the NCRS store. Click the radio button at the top of the page. I listed those resources in the order of importance based on my opinion. Others may rearrange the order, but I think I have all of the most important ones. The judging score sheets are available as free PDFs from the national judging chairman, Roy Sinor. His email address is on the contacts page -- another radio button at the top of the page.Terry- Top

Re: C3..TI ignition question
The TI just needs 12V power to connect to the dedicated TI harness. When I adapted a TI to my SWC I used the 12V power wire to the ballast, but it required adaptation due to different terminal types and I did it in a reversable way. I don't know how the later cars that had TI as a option made this connection, or whether TI cars had a different engine harness because of different connector types. IIRC the standard ignition resistor on TI era cars was built into the engine harness, so chances are that the TI system was installed using the same engine harness.
Like Terry said the AIM should tell you, and the CSM will have the wiring schematic.

Re: C3..TI ignition question - build a library
Terry....That was the answer I was looking for, "there is a separate harnass for the TI". The question came up because, one ignition system favours the negative side and the the other the positve side. I wondered how they installed the 2 systems on the assembly line...........Thanks
PS....I have ALL those books and more, but I didn't have the wiring harnass to look at.- Top

Re: C3..TI ignition question
There is a note in the K66 page of the AIM instructing the assembly line installer to remove the pink wire under the IP from the ignition switch (that is the actual electrical switch on the steering column, not the lock tumbler), and plug in the TI harness to the ignition switch. Everything else is plug and play. K66 sheet A3 in the 1969 AIM.
Seems pretty straight forward, but then what do I know.Terry- Top

Re: C3..TI ignition question
Bruce for years I have wondered what a wire coming out of my orignal owner 70's wiring harness that has a plastic connector on it was for. When the ignition is turned on it has 12 volts. My 70 is not a LT-1 and came with points ignition system. I did make good use of it several years ago when I used it to connect a carburators electric choke.- Top
