Who can tell me a) what it takes to convert a 54 6-volt radio and power pack to 12 volts (if it can be done) and b)who would do that without my having to take out a 2nd mortgage.

Mike, if remember correctly it's a 100watt wire wound resistor at either 1 ohm or 1.5 ohm to knock the voltage down to 6 volt for the radio input. Caution as resistor will get hot. Surely someone can modify the power supply to 12 volt solid state and swap out the tubes for 2v compatible ones. Gary #5895.... -

A MAJOR job that will cost you the GNP, Mike... Set what you have aside and install the equivalent '55 12V version. I'd suggest looking into a 12->6 VDC converter, but the seek function of the WonderBar pulls one HECK of a transient profile over nominal current demands of the radio and it would tear up most commercial 12->6 volt converters....Comment

My 55 Vett Radio works but sucks so I added a Pioneer under the original one with a CD changer in the truck and love it . It's remote and few know it's there and cant be seen easily.
