Interesting eBay parts sale, just finished. Dutch auction for 4 New-in-GM-boxes
hubcap spinners (claimed as 1966, but really 1965's, per part #).
Winning bid was $225. PER SPINNER, according to Dutch auction rules. But because the 2 top bidders requested only ONE spinner, the third highest bidder was assigned the last two. The seller added a message, late in the bid process, stating that the bid price was FOR ALL 4, which would encourage the late bidders to bid higher, but you can't change the rules.
Now I understand that Corvettes of Maryland (?) makes a near-perfect reproduction of '65 or '66 spinners for about $149 a set of 4.
As far as eBay is concerned, these 4 sold for a total of $900. So, were these
eBay spinners really worth the money paid, or were some of the bidders confused by the (relatively) confusing Dutch auction process, then even MORE confused by the seller specifying all 4 for the same price ? How can anyone be content with only one or 2 spinners ? Is the top bidder the one who will attempt to claim all 4 for a total of $225 ?
And in the end, is/are the winner(s) getting '65 spinners, but really wanted '66s ?
