    What an eBay screw-up -- '66 (65?) NIB spinners

Interesting eBay parts sale, just finished. Dutch auction for 4 New-in-GM-boxes
hubcap spinners (claimed as 1966, but really 1965's, per part #).

Winning bid was $225. PER SPINNER, according to Dutch auction rules. But because the 2 top bidders requested only ONE spinner, the third highest bidder was assigned the last two. The seller added a message, late in the bid process, stating that the bid price was FOR ALL 4, which would encourage the late bidders to bid higher, but you can't change the rules.

Now I understand that Corvettes of Maryland (?) makes a near-perfect reproduction of '65 or '66 spinners for about $149 a set of 4.

As far as eBay is concerned, these 4 sold for a total of $900. So, were these
eBay spinners really worth the money paid, or were some of the bidders confused by the (relatively) confusing Dutch auction process, then even MORE confused by the seller specifying all 4 for the same price ? How can anyone be content with only one or 2 spinners ? Is the top bidder the one who will attempt to claim all 4 for a total of $225 ?

And in the end, is/are the winner(s) getting '65 spinners, but really wanted '66s ?

Wayne.....this now appears to be an International incident and you may have to call in Interpol to resolve. A Canadian...reporting on a Dutch auction...through a U.S. forum.....on a Global Internet Discussion Board.....far too complicated for The Mounties or The FBI.....don't you think.....

I had this same problem on one of my auctions several years ago. I inadvertently sold 4 tires on a Dutch auction. I made comments on my auction saying that the bid was for all 4 tires, and the high bidder got all 4 tires.
The only real issue I had was getting the sales fees back from Ebay on the 3 purchases that did not take place!

        You want International Incident ???

Dick Cheney, #2 at the White House (or #1 depending on your suspicions), will visit Alberta's oil sands next week. [the deposits are touted to hold the world's largest reserve of hydrocarbons]. Donald Rumsfeld made the same visit a month or so ago.

Means only one thing --- Invasion scheduled prior to mid-term U.S. elections.

Happy birthday Alberta, 100 years old today. Price of gasoline rose 53 cents a US gallon since this morning (now at $3.61 US per US gallon); and WE produce the stuff !!!

in Netherlands, Dutch auction = Chinese auction

Assuming you're not pulling my leg, Google ["Dutch auction' definition]

Those sources can explain it much better than I. eBay help section also shows how it works in their case. Apparently the Dutch part comes from the tulip auctions.
