    '66 Engine Number

My friend is selling his original owner '66 convertible. We are having trouble with the engine #. The block is 3858174. Number on pad is F0910ER. There aren't any another numbers on the pad. He did have the engine rebuilt about 15 years ago and says they didn't deck the block. If anyone can explain the number I would appreciate it.

    Re: '66 Engine Number

Steve --- Colvin's book shows the "174" block with code "ER" as being from a '66 Chevelle, 350 hp (March '66 introduction). Second Colvin indication is 327 Chevelle ('66) 350 hp H.D. 3-speed or 4-speed, A.I.R. (Air Injection Reactor, ie. California).

But as the assembly is coded Sept 10th (he should check CASTING date of block), it may have found its way into a '67 325 hp Chevelle (same trans combos) with A.I.R. (same code ER).

Wayne, Thank you for the fast response. Someone bought the car today so it will remain a mystery, as I do not have the date code.
