No, you don't, and if you clamp a "Nuclear-Magnetic Fuel Molecule Straightener" on the gas line, you'll have to stop every 50 miles and siphon off the extra gas that builds up in the tank

Re: K&N Air Filter - Addendum

This month's Popular Science has a fascinating test on the five best-selling "miracle" power add/fuel mileage improvement devices; most of them reduced performance and either reduced or had no effect at all on fuel economy, except for the "magnetic fuel molecule straightener", which did nothing at all besides lightening the wallet

          "Magnetic Fuel Molecule Straightener"

Reminds me of the gadget that fit under your carburetor (in place of the base gasket) and had those little propellers that would spin as the air went through the holes. Guaranteed to increase your mileage by 26.7% and provive a much smoother idle. Made your car ride better too. There was a small picture of two speedometers, one showing zero and the other showing 6 MPH. I think that was supposed to show how much more power the engine was producing with the little propeller contraption. (probably because it also caused a vacuum leak) J. C. Whitney in their finest hour!

And just think when the propeller came loose and was sucked into a cylinder

              Michael -

I remember that one - J.C. Whitney called it the "Mini-Supercharger" . That was almost as popular as the day-glo orange molded plastic combination airspeed indicator and bug deflector

Yes, I remember it now. The "Mini-Supercharger". I completely forgot the name they had for it. Incredible. The funniest part is the fact that people actually fell for it.

And I well remember the "Combination Air Speed Indicator and Bug Deflector". Seemed like every early 50's Plymouth had one, especially the grey Plymouths. (weren't they almost all grey?) I think it was part of the "Fluid Drive" option.

It's just a good thing "Ronco" stayed out of the automotive business, but he just did sell the company for BIG Bucks.
