71 Rear End numbers

Trying to figure out if my 71 has its original rear. On the bottem of the diff housing is the number AWW348E2. Cover has H115 on the pass side. Has a 3871975 casting number on the rear cover. Didnt see any other numbers.

I'm certainly not in the same league as some on this board, but I'll give it a shot.

AW - 3.08 ratio/Posi
W - Warren Motive axle
348 - December 14th
E2 - Second Shift???

If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone with more knowledge will correct me.

I'm not a C3 guy, but ...

your rear cover is probably 3871(3)75, not (8). The H-11-5 date cast near the edge by the filler plug, means 11th August 1975 (was the same cover casting # in 1965, but they weren't casting dates on covers in 1965).

Now, on the main carrier, I can't help with the stamped bottom code, but there should be a cast date underneath the driver side 1/2-shaft yoke (same M-D-Y format) which might agree with the timeframe of the rear cover.
