My early 65 convertible has 8 shims in the front right radiator body mount location. Do I use crayon slash marks for Each shim marking on my frame?? So far, that's what I beleive to be correct for this situation. I wonder what are the most shims found in any one body mount location? Any response appreciated. Thanks Dick Gutman

Re: Largest number of body mount shims found ??
Dick,
I'm not 100% sure of this but I seem to remember that if/when a large number of shims were required, a second color was used. The normal individual shim color remained white but the multiple shim color was orange, or some other obvious bright color that stood out and got attention. The colored hash mark represented five shims. If I have this correct, that would mean you would need one orange stripe and three white. This system was used to save time and make it easier to actually get all the marks on the frame before they ran out of space. I'm pretty sure this was NOT the system used in 63 or possibly 64 but I believe it may have started in the early part of the 65 run. Not sure how many years this system lasted though. I don't know if it made it all the way through the C2 era.

Re: Largest number of body mount shims found ??
My '67 18,000 mile car has no less than 12 (could be more) shims on the passenger side rear mount. The shims are all squished out and it looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It is the strangest thing I've ever seen. This is a well known Benchmark car and I can't believe that this many shims were installed and then left in this strange manner. I think that someone was on "the sauce" when they put the shims in this location. They are so displaced that I think I could pull them out by hand if I wanted to.- Top
