    Vent Window crank C2

I want to remove vent crank to put in a plastic washer between crank & door panel. How do you remove spring that retains crank to shaft? No room. Need special tool to R/R? Thanks, Don

There is a special tool you can purchase from some of the regular part vendors. I think Long Island Corvette sells one. It is shapped like a flat open end wrench. You slide it in and it will slide off the retaining spring. I have been able to remove the spring using a small screwdriver. I push in on the door panel to create some space to see the retaining spring. Then push it off with the screwdriver.

stop by an old body shop in your area and have them show you the two types of retaining clip removers that have been around for years. the push type, as bob r described, is available at most napa type stores. the other type, which resembles a pair of pliers, should also be available at the local napa type store. both types come in handy for gm type window and door crank/handles.i avoid the screwdriver approach as damage to door panel vinyl is a possibility. mike

Don, A "down-'N-dirty" method is to wrap a piece of cloth around the back of the crank at the clip and gently pull the cloth away from the open end of the clip. The clip will catch on the cloth and pop off.

Very good comments on removal of the door handle clips. I have the mentionede tool and it works very well. Could anyone tell me how to get the clips back on. Do you use a tool and if so what kind. Thanks in advance.

The Clips just snap back in. Then push the handle back on till the clip snaps in. I put all the clips in the same direction on each handle so if I have to take the panel off you know which way to insert the tool. Mike
