I need a new oil pan for my 66 427/390, I have read the judging manual and I believe I have a correct but damaged pan. Where can I find one and is there a part number to look for? I have been watching ebay, but most of the descriptions are confusing or maybe wrong. Please help.

All Corvette 65-74 Corvette big block oil pans are, basically, the same although there were several different part numbers used with VERY minor changes represented by each. The 1966 iteration was GM #3872429, although this number will be found nowhere on the pan. Among the features which distinguish this pan from some later pans is that it has a hole at the apex of the front oil pan seal radius (for the pan to front cover bolt used for 65-66 applications) and the location of the internal baffling. All 1965-74 Corvette big block oil pans use spot-weled-on corner reinforcements; many later SERVICE pans do not. The GM #3872429 oil pan was used for all 1965-68 Corvette big block applications.
In my opinion, your best bet is to obtain a GM #14091356 oil pan from any GM dealer. This pan is, for all practical purposes, pretty much identical to the original used on your car. The only differences are the lack of the hole I described, the lack of the corner reinforcements, and the exact location of the welded-in internal baffling. The hole is EASILY added. The corner reinforcements are available in reproduction and can easily be added (no need to spot weld---the spot welded reinforcements are for factory assembly convenience; the bolts will hold the reinforcements in place and no one will EVER be the wiser that the spot welding is absent). The slight difference in internal baffling location will cause no functional problem, at all, and cannot be otherwise discerned.
Plus, you can buy this pan from a competitive dealer for about 100 bucks. What more could you ask for?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thanks again, Joe. I do plan on having the car judged and your last option sounds good.- Top

The 14091356 pan has the drain plug in exactly the same location as the original pan used for 1966 (and, all 65-74 Corvette big blocks, for that matter). The plug, itself, is different. However, you can transfer your old plug to the new pan if you wish.
The Corvette big block oil pan, including the 14091356 SERVICE piece, is a Corvette-only item. It was/is not used for any other Chevrolet chassis application. As a matter of fact, ALL Corvette oil pans, small block and big block, used from 1963 to the present are uniquely Corvette items EXCEPT those used from 1975 through 1979.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Bill,
The only thing I can think of to add to the info that Joe provided is, it is highly recommended that you use the new windage tray that will come with your new oil pan. It looks just about identical to your original so it's tempting to just leave the original in place but there are some design changes in the new one that are to be used with the new pan.
