    Joe-----

The '107' coil was NEVER available over-the-counter at GM parts. The '107' was a PRODUCTION-only piece. How can that be if the one in this auction is in a Delco box? Well, if you could see the rest of the box, you would see that this is a "GM Restoration Parts" piece. With that program, things that were never available from GM in SERVICE can be made available and, apparently, packaged in reproduction GM or Delco boxes. I saw these coils, as well as others, for the first time at Carlisle. Actually, they look pretty good, although the upper "ridge" (where the can section crimps to the top) might be just a tiny bit different than originals.

It's the very first time that I've seen any GM Restoration Parts Program item packaged in a "reproduction" GM or Delco box, though. However, as I mentioned, if you could see the rest of the box, you'd see the GMPP label also clearly PRINTED on the box.

Skimming through Ebay..I found another seller with the same AC 107 coil for sale..and it shows a full picture of the AC box and the GM Restoration Parts logo.

Looks like a good repro to me not having seen it in person..and a good alternative to paying $400 for an original...and getting a new coil...as well.

      Thanks..Joe

I think that these coils, as well as Paul Baker's reproductions, are going to make "the bottom fall out" of the used and NOS coil marketplace. Coils, being one of the "trendy, boutique items" have been commanding high prices for a long time. That game's probably about over, now. At least, the premium that INTELLIGENT folks are willing to pay for original or NOS coils should be greatly reduced.

As I say, you could never buy a '107' coil in NEW condition unless you bought it with the new car. So, by definition, any on the market were used.

joe and joe: if you look closelyt at the ebay 107 offering, you'll note the tabs on either side of mthe bakelite tower that prevent the square washer from rotatoing as the nuts are tightened. these tabs weren't seen on delco coils till the early 60's(?1963 first year for the tabs). the judges will pick up on the tabs of this resto piece if shown on a c-1 vette. no tabs on original pre-63 delco coil bakelite towers.mike and mike

Would you use one of these new repro coils, a 45 year old original or drop new guts into an original cannister..or ???

Joe..I agree the availabilty should make it easier for most to afford.. just like stamped 4346 service unit fuel pumps..but..I think..real vintage fuel pumps or coils will continue to bring a considerable premium.

i have one original 107 that was on my 57 210 post 250hp chevy when i bought it years ago. all three of my 57 FI vehicles share the 107. it passed the PV years ago in anaheim calif and just last week was firing the ole 57 283 hp vette thru the local autox. i turned 13.1 with the 57 vette on 6.70x15 bias tires and the ole 107 coil a couple years ago. been my experience that coils either work or are dead. sure to get comments from the electronics experts but that's been my experience. mike

                Re: 107 AC coil

I have what I believe is a 60's vintage #107 service coil. It is correct in every way except it has the "shoulders" as used in post 63 coils. Based on that I believe they did service that coil but maybe I'm missing something here.

I used that service coil on my 61 FI car and spent 2 years looking for a real #107. I finally located a real one. Like Mike I see these reproduction Delco coils as incorrect for judging and who knows how the function. I personally want real Delco parts on my cars and would never consider a GM reproduction or Goat Hill "put together" coil. This is especially true of a TI coil where proper impedence is more critical than a "points" car.

                    Mike,
Is there any chance you could post a pic of the pre-'63, non-tab version of the 107 coil?
                    Thanks
