    Black GF-90

Ebay #4574101520 has an alleged NOS black GF-90. I am obviously very skeptical. I emailed the seller and asked if this was an NOS silver replacement filter that has just been repainted. He claims it is an original black NOS filter that has not been repainted. Also asked him the diameter of the canister, and he stated it was 1 7/8". This one appears to be flat black and JG calls for gloss black. Is this just another counterfit?

Thanks Mike. I thought GF-90s were supposed to have the notches. Is that not the case?

My original used GF-90's are semi-flat black. Maybe they were glossy at one time but it doesn't look like it.

            Mike,

as you stated SILVER vs BLACK very controversial - thought the black GF90s were used on fuellies, such as our Z06's?

                Rick.

I agree with Mike on the filter color. I've seen both silver and black in many factory photos and the silver seems to be the most common. There was an in depth discussion on this topic here a few months ago and I think it was concluded that either should/would be accepted in judging.

The L84 F.I. or Z06 option had nothing to do with the color of the filter. It seemed they were both used randomly throughout the year on everything from 300 HP to FI.

PS.. Still havent found the Z06 drum casting # you requested.

Thanks Dan. I'm looking for info for a drum with a lower (numerical) casting number. Not handy at the moment but I think it was it was something like 3834xxx. I was trying to dig out the info for Rick but it's buried somewhere in the piles of paperwork.

65 Judging manual calls for gloss black and notches for the GF90 (small block) and no notches for the big block. Does the JG need to be udpated?

                        Don,

I'm not sure about the notches on the end fittings for 65. Others will have to answer that but I know there were silver filters used at times for 65.

Also, I don't agree with the "gloss black". I would call it something between semi gloss and gloss. If a filter is painted with gloss black from a spray can, I would definitely not call it typical.
