    69 wiper arms

The JM states that wiper arms for early 69's (thru 12/68) did not have the brass washer tubes on them. My car was built in sept 68', and I have one wiper arm with the tubing and one without. No sign of any tubing at the base of the windshield. A friend is the original owner of his 69' built in Oct, and I'am quite sure he has tubing on his arms. I have picked up a set of original arms with the tubing, but don't know which way to go. Any comments or suggestions?? Thanks in advance!!

    Carmen:

I have a 69 built in Oct. 68 and the wiper arms both came with tubes on them. The serial number is 5854. I hope this is helpful.

      Carmen,

Like Jeff's car, my October '68 built '69 (#4022) has the washer tubes on both wiper arms in difference with the 68-69 JM (Second Edition). My car is unrestored and I believe it's wiper arms to be original.

Interestingly, on pages 35 & 180 of the "1969 Stingray Guidebook" by Rick Bizzoco, there are pictures identified as VIN #3013 (a late September '68 built car) with the washer tubes on the wiper arms, although I could find no reference in the text to a change in the windshield washer design during the early part of the '69 model year. I hope this helps clarify your situation.

For what it is worth, I have a late Nov. car #11920, which has been stored since 1977,history back to Aug.'69, and it has tubes on both arms.Folks in the know have also stated that it has a few (carry over) items from the '68's.For example;early style wiper/washer pump, painted grilles,'68 style console vent controls, large can wiper door actuater, and lists head restraints on the tank sticker. For the record it is a 390hp/427,M-21,3:55 posi,K-66 ign, cortez silver/blk std. Also have car #14683, but a Jan'69 unit and is the same as far as the wiper arms go.Hope this helps.

          Re: Is the JM incorrect????

Thanks for the response guys. It seems that there are quite a few documented early 69's (before 12/68) that have the tubes on the wiper arms. Is it safe to assume that the JM is incorrect? Does it need to be revised? If I install the other wiper with the tube on my car, to have a matching set, will I receive a deduction?? Just want to do the right thing!!! Thanks in advance.

            Carmen,

Dick & Reba Worthington (sp?) are working on the updates for the 3rd Edition of the 68-69 Judging Manual. I've already emailed them several items for possible update. I'll sent them a note telling them to read this message string and investigate the early '69 windshield washer setups for possible updates/revisions.
