c-1 - 1958 rear end

Hi,
I have made a grim discovery when changing the brake shoes in the rear end of my 58. The brake shoes do not fit. The width of the shoes that do fit is approx 1" where they narrow. Correct shoes should be 1 5/16. Both sets of shoes are 1 11/12 wide at the widest part. I have assumed I dont have a corvette rear end, what do I have? Does anyone know how to figure this out? Any and all ideas are welcome.

Hi Roy, thanks for your help. I hope this is not to obvious a question but how do I tell if the drums are wrong? Any stampings, part numbers etc to look for?

It would seen obvious if the shoes are right and the drums are to short or deep ,the drums are wrong, when it comes to part numbers I don't know but other number Guru's should know.

Joe just answered the question!

The 3752623 are applicable to many 51-62 Chevrolet passneger car applications as well as 53-62 Corvette. They are used front and rear for non-metallic and non-HD brake applications.

The 3828686 are applicable to 63-65 passenger and Corvette REAR application. If this is a part number from a BOX, then it's applicable to non-metallic, non heavy duty applications. If it's the casting number from the drum, then the drums may be either for standard or metallic brake applications.
